The goal of the group was to encourage exercise amongst both the students and staff of the house with many participating several times a week throughout last year. A ten week challenge was proposed to the runners leading up to the Burnie Ten Fun Run in October 2010 with a squad of 17 committing to the event. I am pleased to announce that all of the TUF Burbury House Runners Group completed the 10km course, many in personal best performances. This is an outstanding achievement considering that for many this was their very first fun run.

The squad caters for all types of fitness levels and there is no cost involved in the training.

Stephen O’brien has produced his finest performance at a Fun Run with a fantastic 5th placing at the Cool Night Classic. With over 2500 runners in the field, O’Brien stopped the clock in at time of 17.44min for the 5.2km (17.10min 5km split) which took in some of the more scenic sights Brisbane has to offer. A former Australian Age Group triathlete, Steve has turned his focus to running over the last 2 months and results are really starting to pay dividends. Team Ultimate Fitness had several other great performances with squad coach Matt Casos finishing 14th in 18.33 (17.50min 5km), John Stumer 246th 22.59min (22.10min 5km), Paul Fyfe 256th 23.02min (22.14min 5km), Aayden Dodd 269th 23.09min (22.20min 5km) & Chris Dodd 461st 24.47min (23.50min 5km) Thanks must go to Kristen for taking the wonderful team photos and to the runners for supporting the event.

Hi Team

I am sure the majority of us have woken up this morning nursing some bruised and battered legs following yesterdays Gold Coast Half Marathon and 10km run. Firstly thanks must go to all those who supported the Ipswich Hospital Foundation Half Marathon Team. The support we had out there (the bus load of supporters at the 19km mark) was sensational and I am sure Tom will be rapt with the coverage they received leading up to Park 2 Park in 3 weeks.

A massive congratulations to the entire Ultimate Fitness Squad on yesterdays efforts. A total of 8 personal bests were recorded with many of you exceeding your own expectations. Those last few months of tough training are really starting to pay dividends but I am happy to say that more improvement is left in every single athlete leading up to Sydney 09 and beyond. The next 5 weeks gives all of us a chance to ‘ice the cake’ on what will be the most successful City to Surf assault to date.

The Lowood to Fernvale fun run is the next test for all of us this Sunday. If you haven’t yet registered please go to www.railtrailfunrun.com.au or ring the Ipswich Hospital Foundation. There is an 8.3km and 3km distance which is ideal for children and those who would like to have a relaxed walk on Sunday morning. The Ipswich Hospital Foundation would love as much support as possible so it would be fantastic to see the green shirts and hats out in force.

Have a great week. Look after those tired legs and ruptured nipples.

Regards
