Cool Night Classic Race Report 12/11/09

Stephen O’brien has produced his finest performance at a Fun Run with a fantastic 5th placing at the Cool Night Classic. With over 2500 runners in the field, O’Brien stopped the clock in at time of 17.44min for the 5.2km (17.10min 5km split) which took in some of the more scenic sights Brisbane has to offer. A former Australian Age Group triathlete, Steve has turned his focus to running over the last 2 months and results are really starting to pay dividends. Team Ultimate Fitness had several other great performances with squad coach Matt Casos finishing 14th in 18.33 (17.50min 5km), John Stumer 246th 22.59min (22.10min 5km), Paul Fyfe 256th 23.02min (22.14min 5km), Aayden Dodd 269th 23.09min (22.20min 5km) & Chris Dodd 461st 24.47min (23.50min 5km) Thanks must go to Kristen for taking the wonderful team photos and to the runners for supporting the event.

Moogerah Mash Dash 4 Cash 5.2km Fun Run – Saturday 14th November 2009

The stage has been set for the running of the Moogerah Mash Dash Handicap Fun Run. Please note that this is a private club event and applications will be accepted up until this Thursday midnight. As per usual controversy surrounds handicap marks though the handicapper is confident of providing a close and exciting finish.

Favourite to take out the event is course record holder Stephen O’brien though he will have to give up a 6min head start to win it. Backmarker Tony Shaw is back from a long spell and a good result would not surprise. The ever improving veterans John Stumer and Paul Fyfe have good marks and should give a good sight. The real queries are with Kym Jaenke and Matt Casos who have been both sighted doing secret squirrel training in readiness for a big assault. Last but not least we have the 3km runners who have already given the handicapper nightmares in lining up form. All in all it makes for an intriguing race with the winner surely not to be known until the final straight.

Many thanks must go the Stumer family for providing this wonderful setting, to all those who have agreed to partake in the event and last but not least to the IPSWICH HOSPITAL FOUNDATION for providing the equipment on the morning. Cost of the event is $10 per person with first across the line receiving the $50 prize purse. Your entry also includes breakfast and unlimited lavazza espresso coffee. Remaining funds will gladly be donated to IHF.

Here is the preliminary field with the final field and marks announced Friday 10am (Eastern Darra Time).

Shannice Continues to Shine

Hi

Please take time to read the attached link.

http://www.youbethedifference.com.au/qld/story/individual/shannice-continues-to-shine

Any comments to Shannice would give her such a buzz. She is a wonderful person and I love working with her as well as the rest of my Cleveland Squad. Over the last 3 months the focus has been on developing not only her fitness but her ability to comprehend the whole ‘race situation’. Concepts such as gun reaction, staying in lanes and racing are areas we focus on each week along with stretching exercises, drills and technique. The improvements she has made have been quite astounding not only during training and racing but at home and in life situations. Representing Queensland at the Australian Youth Paralympic Games in Melbourne next week is a fantastic achievement and as her running coach I simply could not be more prouder.

Matt Casos
